Mexican Fiesta

I love Mexican food, it's fun to cook and even more fun to eat with your hands. There is much more to Mexican food than just Tacos and Nachos so come with us to Mexico and cook up some traditional Mexican dishes including Chicken Tamale Pie and Banana and Chocolate Empanadas. Wash the food down with a kids version of Sangria while you learn about the wonderful Mexican culture and people.

Cinco de Mayo (meaning 5th of May in Spanish) is the celebration of the courage of the Mexican people during the battle (La Batalla de Puebla) on May 5th, 1862. This victory did not win the war but it showed the courage and strength of the Mexican troops. The "Batalla de Puebla" became a symbol of Mexican unity and patriotism.

Did you know that Piņatas were originally made out of a fragile earthen jar containing simple toys and treats. They were decorated to look like the gods they worshipped or to symbolise a special event. Today they come in every shape and colour imaginable. The craft activity is to make Mini Chili Shaped piņatas to fill and give to your friends.
